Futurama

I always dug Futurama. Who wouldn’t want to be Bender? And of course the retro/futuristic hovercars were fantabulous. I especially liked the Warecar episode where they used “The Car” and “Christine”.

I was watching a re-run of “Law and Oracle”.

This was the Futurama episode where Fry joined the police force, and the theme was like “Minority Report”. There’s a sequence in the middle of the show where they spot a speeding hovercar. They follow the car into “Circuit City”, which turns into Tron.

Imagine my surprise when I realized, for the first time…that my 1953 Chevy was in the episode! That’s right…the artists very obviously used Stardust as a template for the speeding hovercar in the episode. I mean, really obvious. Remember, my Chevy is MY design, the only one of its kind in the world. My guess is they were searching the web for 1950s style cars to use as a basis for animation, and found my website! Here are some stills from the episode, compared to Stardust:

You can see the VERY Obvious similarities between my car and the Futurama car, especially in the side and back views. Positively my fin design (no production car ever had shark fins like these). The basic bubble-style of the 53 Chevy, the wheel skirts, side molding, the back-end fins and dual exhaust, and the oval grill. There is not doubt they used my 1953 Chevy Wild Custom Belair to design the car in Law and Oracle! Here’s the video…
